Breast Augmentation for Vaughan, Richmond Hill, and the Greater Toronto Area

A breast augmentation is a surgical procedure in which breast implants are inserted behind the breasts to enhance the size and shape of the breasts. Breast augmentation can restore volume and create a more proportionate figure.

Patients seeking breast augmentation may do so for a number of reasons:

  • To create a size and shape in balance with the rest of the body
  • To restore lost breast volume after pregnancy or weight loss
  • To correct breasts that are uneven or asymmetrical
  • To enlarge breasts for aesthetic or personal reasons

Note that a breast augmentation is different from a breast lift, which raises breasts that have sagged or drooped over time. The two procedures can be combined, however, for women looking to both increase the size of their breasts and lift them for an overall more dramatic youthful effect.

Breast augmentation should only be performed by a qualified plastic surgeon—a medical specialist who has completed a minimum of five years of training in surgery following medical school. Cosmetic surgeons require a high level of surgical skill, excellent aesthetic judgment, as well as extensive knowledge and years of practice.

Finding a qualified plastic surgeon that you feel is right for you is an important part of the breast augmentation process. Patients considering aesthetic surgery should have the opportunity to discuss their expectations, and options in depth with their surgeon.

Incision locations for breast augmentation are chosen for their ability to hide scars. Each has their own advantages, which can vary depending on the type and size of plants chosen. Incision locations can include:

  • Around the areola
  • Under the arm
  • Under the breast
  • Through abdominal incision during tummy tuck

Breast implants can be inserted under the chest muscle or between the chest muscle and the breast tissue. Each option has its own recovery time and long-term placement stabiltiy. Your choice may depend on the size and type of the implant, your physiology, and your preference.

This may look like a lot to consider—and it is! All the advantages and disadvantages of each choice can be discussed during a breast augmentation consultation with Dr. Madronich, where you will work together to develop a surgical plan that helps you achieve your goals.

Recovery

Your individual needs will determine the duration of your hospital stay. After your surgery, some discoloration, swelling, and discomfort will occur, but this should dissipate relatively quickly. Most women can return to work within 3-7 days following their breast augmentation surgery. Many patients report feeling back to normal in less than 1 month after the procedure.

Recovery time after a breast augmentation depends on personal health, the scope of the procedure, and other factors. Full recovery from this surgery is usually 2-4 months. Patients generally notice some results immediately. As the swelling goes down and suture lines fade over the subsequent weeks, you'll more clearly see your new look.
